A great way to give your room a fresh new look is by adding area rugs. Today’s design trend is eclectic giving you numerous choices when looking for the perfect rug to add to your room.

If your dcor is Victorian or traditional English you will want to look for an area rug that appears to be antique. A faded out Oriental rug will add a touch of old world elegance to a Victorian room. You can choose from authentic antique Persian Oriental rugs, kilims, dhurris or high quality manufactured copies. Aubussons, and hooked Victorian rugs also offer the antique look. Designers say that floral area rug patterns are the best choice to match this dcor style.

Antique Oriental area rugs and Aubussons are a good choice for other dcor styles. Any old world style of design is will be complemented by an Oriental. French country looks are very popular and can be highlighted with an antique area rug as the focal point.

Some homes are decorated in a minimalist style. This modern style of design is typically sparse with little furniture and very few accessories. Shapes in a minimalist room will usually be geometric. Area rugs that work well with this design style include shag rugs, sisal rugs, or flat carpet style rugs. Solid colors or bright geometric patterns will draw attention to the room. For optimum pop you should place the rug on a hard surfaced flooring.

Tech rooms should feature a flat carpet rug, shag rug, or a sisal rug. These rugs create less static.

American country design, sometimes called cottage or garden design, is soft and elegant. It is sometimes shabbily chic. Hook rugs, rag rugs, and hand painted sailcloth rugs are perfect for rooms with a country design. Patterns for this design style include florals, trompe l’oeil, or a pastel solid.

Arts and craft design may be incorporated by adding a spare William Morris type of rug. The elements found are abstract and in style. They complement the wood angles of the arts and crafts style found.

With ethnic and eclectic dcor you can go wild when choosing an area rug. Look for fun prints such as zebra or leopard that coordinate with the color scheme of your room.

You may want to choose a different textured rug such as sisal, coir, or nubby dhurries. You can incorporate a wild look into your decore by using the designs that bring out these looks. Make your guests attention go to your room instantly.

A lot of homes are going with a Mexican design or South American design. This is using earth tones as well as geometric and striped patterns

Remember that it is your room and you need to express yourself in the design. What you put down now does not need to be permanent, change your look on occasion so you don’t get tired of it.
