Have you ever wondered what it might be like to step into a fairy tale? Those that visit the Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland, know exactly what being royalty feels like. Not only does this resort and spa look like a castle, it happens to be the genuine article.

As the name suggests, the palace is steeped in tradition. The balls held here in the 1800s were the domain of high society and royalty. The Great Ballroom is a site to see as are the grounds with their beautiful landscaping and epic views.

A day at Beau Rivage is nice, but a night is divine. The palace lights up like the moon on a crystal clear night. This impression is enhanced by the reflection of the palace in the waters that frame the resort. It is something that has to be seen to be believed.

If a spa is what you are after, you will not be disappointed when you book at room at Beau Rivage. Allow your body to be bathed, scrubbed, and rejuvenated as you lie there escaping reality for a day. This spa offers numerous treatments that will please any world traveler.

From body scrubs laced with fine flowers and exotic sugars to bathes that include some of the best oils in all the land, this is far more than an ordinary spa. From the moment you walk through the grand columns during arrival, you will note that this is one spot on earth where every little detail has been accounted for.

As far as the decor of the hotel goes, if you can imagine what the insides of a palace might be like you may be able to guess at the interior of this hotel. Silken draperies hang from grand windows; marble stairways and hallways lead the way to your decadent room; and fresh flower bloom all around.

Sip your morning cappuccino on the terrace overlooking the river, and then make a point of visiting the stately gardens that are part of the property. You may find that your mind begins to wander as you walk through perfectly coiffed hedges and roses, but that is just an after effect of basking in luxury.

Beau Rivage used to only be for the rich, famous and royalty. These days, us lowly peasants can book a room without passing a lineage test. That does not mean that the palace has lost any of its luster.

So, will this kingly experience come with a kingly price? Not really. The rates are surprisingly reasonable considering the accommodations. They begin at 450 Swiss Francs for a room with a garden view.
