by Sharon Beswetheric on March 23, 2009

While everyone associates plastic eggs with Easter, large eggs can be used for a variety of other things besides filling with candy. Other than finding a large plastic Easter egg in the Easter basket, here are some other uses which work quite well.

Household Uses

A large plastic Easter egg makes a good household container. Here’s some uses to think about. If the egg does not have holes in it, use it to hold smaller amounts of paint or finishes.

How about using a large plastic easter egg as a makeshift organizer to put thumbtacks in for use in your home office? But don’t limit yourself to the home office, you can put some plastic easter eggs in your garage to keep all your screws of the same size together. This will save you time next time you’re looking for that certain size screw, nut, or bolt.

This one’s my favourite. You can pierce some holes in the top of one of your large plastic easter eggs with a BBQ skewer and fill it up with all your different herbs and spices to make a great potpourri dish. Get your little ones to decorate them and they will make great gifts for your grandparents or inlaws.

More Personal Solutions

Ever have the problem of laddering your pantyhose from sharp edges in drawers or suitcases? Well know you can store each pair in a disused large plastic easter egg and close it shut. This will keep them smelling great and stop them getting damaged. Similarly, you can store all your jewellery / watches / earrings etc in a plastic easter egg shell whilst you are travelling to prevent them getting damaged, as well as to hide them from potential thieves.

The pockets on fanny packs are sometimes so tight that it’s nigh on impossible to get to loose change. So why not put your loose change in a large plastic easter egg that you used last easter and put the egg in your fanny pack. This way, when you need some change, you can just pull out the plastic egg and see the exact amount of change you have on you.

Random Uses for those Plastic Easter Eggs

You can make almost limitless games for your children with some colourful disused large plastic easter eggs that you may not have thought of before. For the younger ones, you can put a little treat in a green plastic easter egg and ask them to point out the green one. When they do they get a bit of candy. Great for memory, and great for colour recognition.

Use half an egg for a scope to use at the beach for sand castles. For Easter, fill the large plastic eggs with individually wrapped candies or small toys.

We did a great thing for our kids last Christmas, we put loads of goodies and treats in some old large plastic easter eggs and wrapped them up with Christmas wrapping paper. The kids were thrilled as they had something to open in their stocking, and we were happy as it kept them busy whilst we made breakfast on Christmas morning.

We have looked at countless different ways to reuse your large plastic easter eggs for various different handy solutions. But as you can tell, you are only limited by your imagination.
