Small aquariums and your fish’s health

Most people have different interests, mainly for relaxation or just for good old fashioned fun. One wonderful hobby is keeping a small aquarium. Most people think that fish have short life span. This is not true, did you know that most fish (depending on its species) has life span of 3-7 years, sometimes longer? It is a fact that some golfish have lived for up to 20 years!

Most people like to begin small, when learning a new hobby.

Here are a few recommendations for keeping your micro/nano tank healthy and vibrant

A nano/micro fish tank aquarium must have a proper stand to keep it standing fast. A tank full of water is heavy, so do not place it on random pieces of furniture, you never know how long it will hold for. If a hobby’s worth doing, do it properly.

Lighting is an absolute must for your aquarium. Getting it right is absolutely essential. You must make sure the tank does not have too much light and vica versa, it must not have too little. The answer to this is fluorescent lighting, which will provide the correct amount for your aquarium.

Fish tank aquariums should be maintained regularly with fresh water. Tap water, must be dechlorinated. Either artificially or by letting it sit for a few days in a container, letting it aerate. A 10-20 percent partial change weekly is usually sufficient.

Overpopulation is a big no no, this creates problems with the water very quickly, especially in small tanks. Keep a balanced ratio, with the majority being one species. You should only keep a minority of fish in the cleaning department. For small fish tank aquariums , the best choice is algae eaters that do not grow to big.

Have a daily check on your little tank of wonder. Look for signs of health dangers. Most behaviors of fish are obvious if their health is at peril. Such as, lurking, gasping and drifting. Change your filter media in accordance to the manufacturers instruction. If neglected, a filter media can have too much toxins to handle, thus, pushing some of it back to your aquarium! Dont wait for that to happen.

These are only few basic steps to keep your fish healthy in a small aquarium. Of course, there are many others to consider. When you love your little ecosystem, you will find many ways to protect it and keep it as healthy as possible. Even a small tank aquarium can work wonders for you, physically, mentally and emotionally.
