Ready Up for Missouri Fairs and Festivals

by Rick Amorey on March 22, 2009

So, you think you have what it takes to make a dollar or two at one of the Missouri fairs. That’s great! You just need to understand one or two pieces of advice that you should know. Like all things, after all, it is something that requires an amount of time and effort to pursue.

So when you are trying to dip your hand into the craft show business for the first time, the first thing that you should do is to find an event that will occur near your vicinity. In the good old days, you have to be on the lookout for fliers all over the state, but this is thankfully no longer the case. Instead, go to the Internet and look for online fliers there. Go ahead and do it right now, if you want. I’ll wait.

You should have found a small number of potential craft fairs by now. Before you decide to go to any of them, however, you must first contact the event organizers of each. Try to figure out how successful they have been over the years. In the case of events that are being held for the first time, try to find out how they plan to run things. This will be a large factor to determining the success of the incoming event, but be aware of one thing; first time events always have a large risk of faring badly.

You should be ready to start negotiating for a good deal for a booth and space at the craft show. Prices will vary, but this is usual. Ask what each rental package will include, aside from the space itself. The more expensive ones usually include access to power supplies, more tables and chairs, and whatever else. Cheaper packages will practically give you just the space and whatever you need (tables and chairs at the very least) will come out of your own expenses.

Finally, keep in mind that this is cooperation between you and the event organizers. Keep your patience with them and try to work out a compromise between the two of you. The organizers will appreciate it, and you will have a more enjoyable time at the fair
