Puppy barking is totally normal for dogs. It is normal that puppies bark, whine, and at times howl, just like it is normal for birds to sing. If you own a dog, you realize that it is inevitable that there will be times when your dog will bark, whine and howl. Don’t even think to train your puppy not to bark as it will never work. It is best for all, including your dog, if the barking can be controlled.
Here are the reasons for why barking begins
Dogs that do not get a lot of socializing or that are spending most of their time alone need something to do to spend all that saved up energy. If there is nobody with your dog all day, then they may bark just to hear itself and nobody tells them to stop. It won’t be long before barking becomes part of his or her daily routine. For a lot of dogs they continue to bark because they like it and think it is fun.
It may actually be your fault that your dog barks so much. You always obey when you hear your dog speak. They bark and you let them out. Then they bark and you let them in. If he barks, he gets his tummy rubbed; therefore, barking is a behavior that is rewarded. When your puppy barks you give it attention, so early on they know that if they bark you will give them attention and that is what they want. You need to reward your dog when they are not doing any barking.
Exercises and Puppy Barking
To minimize puppy barking and for you to get some peace and quiet, you have to realize that most of the time; puppy barking is really due to the boredom, loneliness, frustration and fright that your puppy feels. These entire situations can be eased and improved when you spend more time with your puppy. A well-exercised, happy, and contented puppy is more likely to spend the whole day sleeping when you are not home. So take some time and play with him, train him and exercise him.
Puppy obedience training is just as boring mentally for dogs as it is for their owners. “Come here”, “sit”, “heel”, and “stay” all make enjoyable games for your dog. Why not make it even more fun by rewarding good performance with treats, hugs and praise. Remember that dogs and puppies like a quick pace and high energy! Try to think of new training ideas for your puppy so it won’t get bored.
If a dog stays in a fenced yard almost all of the time, he is likely to need some socializing. To keep the puppy barking to a minimum, it may be necessary to take them on a walk. On a daily walk they get to explore the outside things they see and smell while they are at home. Dogs and puppies will run around outside and have fun, but this is not necessarily exercise. Just like humans, they pace, fidget, and have other nervous tendencies. Some fun things to entertain your puppies with are chew toys for puppy biting and digging pits.
Canines are social animals. Like humans, they also seek friends and companions. Take your dog to a dog park daily or weekly and let them mingle with the other dogs. Romping and playing together all day will tire them out easily and will help them sleep happily while recovering from the hard play and great exercise session.
