Orchid Gardening – A Quick Guide To Orchid Gardening Success

by Shelia Miller on March 24, 2009

Orchid gardening has been around for quite a while. It is a very enjoyable hobby – and for some an obsession. The variety of orchid species and hybrids makes the options truly endless. With that – it also makes it difficult to have a quick guide that is comprehensive and accurate for all orchids. Still – you can get a good start with the basics below. They are true regardless of which type of orchid you are trying to grow.

Orchid Gardening Tip #1 – Care Is Required

One thing that you must understand is that while orchid gardening is not difficult, it must be undertaken with great care. This is why many people who are just getting started with orchid gardening find that while they are able to keep their orchids alive, they are unable to get them to bloom. Herein lies the reason why you should choose an easy type of orchid.

Orchid Gardening Tip #2 – Selection Is Key

Choosing the right orchid is important. For a beginning orchid gardener, you may want to start with one such as the Cymbidum, to work with. Doing so will provide for a much more rewarding experience.

There are plenty of experts on orchid gardening. However – you do not have to be one of them to take care of a Cymbidum. There are more than 45 different breeds and of course – as with all orchids – thousands of hybrids. Find one you like and go from there. The great thing about Cymbidum is that they are willing to thrive in trees, on rocks, and even in the ground.

Orchid Gardening Tip #3 – Gather Your Resources

As I said – if you want to just dabble in this – start with the Cymbidums. They will not do you wrong. But if you want to take it further than just a little time here and there – really get into the orchid gardening thing, you are going to need a good guide to help you out. It can save you a ton of money and make the overall experience that much more enjoyable (success is fun!)
