Making the Cut at South Dakota Craft Fairs

by Rick Amorey on March 23, 2009

Life down in the farmlands may get a bit dull at times, that’s for sure. Each day of the week, one goes through the same old routines: Wake up early, eat breakfast, work the fields, go in and have some lunch, then back to the fields again, until it’s time to turn in for the night. Because of this, a lot of people have turned to hobbies to make life a lot less monotonous.

Perhaps you have felt truly bored at one point and decided to pursue a hobby yourself. What did you end up choosing? Has it been appealing for you to make wonderfully crafted objects out of raw materials? Maybe you have enjoyed the magic that your grandmother has done with clothes, and seek to emulate that? As long as it involves a raft of one kind or the other, then you will have a place in one of South Dakota’s craft shows.

In a craft show, you are given the chance to showcase the fruits of your hobby to the whole State. Sometimes, even people from other States come to visit, just to see what South Dakota has to offer. My son, who is a bit of a modern kid, frequents these fairs with his finely painted miniature figures. His hobby comes in the form of having small sculptures made, and has them assembled like an army. His real talent, though, comes from the detail with which he paints them. If you look closely, you’ll even see the miniature’s facial expressions.

Like my son, you can also make it in one of South Dakota’s Craft Fairs. This will be a perfect opportunity for you to tell the world that you can do your stuff right; and of course, you can earn some income as well. All you have to do is find a schedule for a craft show near you, secure a booth, and you?re set.

It won’t be easy, though, I can tell you that much, as your crafts probably won’t sell very fast on the first few tries. But with enough attempts, you’ll be able to sell your crafts with the best of them, plus earn a bit on the side.
