Make Your Home Feel Cozy

by Barbie Williams on March 22, 2009

Your home is a reflection of yourself. If you have just moved into a home you may not be pleased with the feeling that you get. When you are ready to decorate there are several different things that you can do and ways to decorate on a budget to get the look that you want to achieve. Here are some tips to help.

Pictures are a great way to decorate a home. Pictures are your self expression of life as you live it. Take a picture of your scenery or one to highlight the seasons. If you are unsure where to put your pictures, place them on tables, on walls, on shelves, and more; anywhere you can place a picture. It will become the focal point in the room because everyone will be looking to see what you are doing and creating.

Pictures can be hung from walls to create various patterns that complement the general atmosphere of your home. You can even select photograph arrangements according to certain themes, such as a wall full of pictures of your friends and family smiling at the camera. This truly helps to create the sense that your home is part and parcel of your personal life, even if you only recently moved in.

Wooden furniture is also a great way to make your home more cozy. This is because wooden furniture has a traditional feel to it, without any of the trappings of modern life. The natural touch does wonders for the ambience of your home, giving it a warm and soft feel.

Make a room happy and tranquil by adding simple earth tone colors such as blue, brown, greens, and other soft tones that can be peaceful and easy on the eyes. It instantly creates a soft peaceful look and feel in the room.

Make a certain area stand out more by placing an area rug in a corner of a large room. This will give you the opportunity to make a dining area or breakfast nook without building on. The area rug becomes a focal point directing the attention to the table.

Because windows are always covered why not place a curtain that will absorb the sounds and muffle them. If you have a large room you can use the curtains to help cut down the noise and take out the echo.

If you are moving into a new home you can still use the tips above to customize your home with your preference. Make it yours and be creative. If you are happy and comfortable your guests will be too.
