If taking home a pet is not something that you have decided seriously, then you better not take your kids into a pet store or you will only end up perpetrating one of life’s greatest mistakes. You shouldn’t be surprised seeing your kids getting hooked and attached with the cutest puppy that they can find.

You just can’t say no since you will be given with a puppy that looks so sweet with its wet brown eyes which seems to beg you to take him home together with your wailing kids who are just ready to throw their tantrums provided you get them what they wish. Aside from the unstoppable cries of your children, you will likely find yourself remembering the past particularly those moments that you had with your family dog – you’re paying for a shopping cart full of dog stuff – plus the pup.

When you buy a dog in an impulse, only then that you will recognise all the sorrows of doing so. Only then, after several days of bonding with the dog, that you will find out that the character of the dog is not something that could fit your home’s way of life. You begin to resent taking the dog for walks or rushing home between appointments for feedings. It’s like having some other baby that you didn’t plan. You will also have the disposition to get really pissed with those normal doggy habits that you once were able to deal with such as those petty accidents caused by the pup, finding your furnishings had again been chewed, barking at night, and others. That’s the point where some dead dog owners punish the dog to the point of ill-treatment or negligence.

Sadly, many of the dogs in shelters are there because they were the impulse buy of a home or an adult who failed to consider what dog ownership involves. The owner’s decision simply counts on the kind of entertainment they had when they saw that cute and charming pup and disregarded the heart of knowing its full grown size or other important details concerning its breed. In a matter of months, the conflict begins. Many dogs coming from the pounds can actually become the best pets if only they would go to the home that truly fits their needs. The dog’s only “crime” was being chosen by people who were not ready to include them into their family.

Some types of dogs are more demanding than others. Each day, they may need increased hours of interaction and fun through training, exercises and bonding times. Normally, if you can’t find a time to interact with them, they are more likely to get your tending by barking all throughout or simply entertain themselves with chewing either their toys or your preferred furniture and other stuff. Some kinds of dogs want a space where they could freely run and play each day. These dogs may be great companions for children. Some dogs which you can see play well and get along better with older kids may tend to feel uncomfortable with the kind of interaction that younger children would give them. If you want to have the best kind of dog for your family that suits the type of home you have and the time that you can grant to take care of a pet, then you better equip yourself with the proper knowledge about different breeds of dogs.

Take your time when visiting pet stores or breeders and see to it that you when you visit the dogs, you will spend time bonding with them so that you will know which kind would really fit you. Hearing the puppy bark with excitement and seeing those charming brown eyes which seem to beg you can really break your heart once you leave that pet store, nevertheless, if you really want to take the puppy home, you really want to be sure that it would be the best place he could call a home and not merely another wrong house to reside. You may want to leave the kids home when you go back to visit the dog and get more facts about the dog’s history, conduct and demands.
