As long as your chain is correctly threaded, put it on your dog so that the chain pulls in an upward direction when on the dog’s neck. In this way the chain immediately loosens when you release the pull on the lead.
The conditions under which overbred dogs are housed are terrible. What a sad sight, a type of dog that should never have been bred is being produced by breeders for sale to the public.
Puppy mill breeders cannot be excused for bad breeding, and such acts make it more difficult to train dogs on the owners end. They should know better than to breed dogs who have poor health.
Breeders who do not take a dog’s health into account end up doing all of us a disfavor. Owners are caused heartache in medical bills and hours of difficult training.
When shopping for a lead chain, remember that lengths of lead chains vary. Small dogs like yorkies need sixteen-to eighteen-inch lengths, bigger dogs up to twenty-eight inches. Tiny tots need the finer and smaller chains still, although I consider that a very small dog need not have a choke chain at all.
When learning to use a lead, take hold of both rings at each end in different hands. With one hand held high above the other slowly drop through the lower ring, until both rings meet each other.
Having got your dog walking better on the lead – you must now teach him to sit every time you stop. This obviates any chance of the dog causing you to be pulled into the road – should you suddenly stop on seeing a vehicle coming, for as you stop, however suddenly, your dog sits.
Yorkies will adjust to systematic training quickly. Most dogs rather enjoy training. Yorkies enjoy structure, and they appear to love to learn. Yorkies especially love learning tasks that please their owners.
