If you want to avoid the embarrassing odors in soiled carpet or the expensive cost of replacing all of your carpets it would be best to begin your Havanese potty training. In deciding whether or not to send your little friend outside or inside to go potty you need to consider your lifestyle and living arrangements in order to pick the best method for both you and your Havanese. Do you live in an apartment with no yard or in a house with a private and safe yard? Are you home a lot to be able to take your dog outside or will he or she be left indoors for many hours at a time with nowhere to potty?

In order to make the best decision for both you and your Havanese, think about every possible situation that could arise in disturbing your Havanese training.

Are you away working for long periods of time that would make it hard for your Havanese to hold their bladder? If so, this could cause accidents and then hurt feelings within your puppy for breaking house rulesbut what else are they to do?

Once you determine whether it’s inside our outside, you can then narrow down how you want to train your dog. But no matter where you choose to train your dog to go to, there are many ways to go about getting it accomplished. If training your Havanese to go outside, there are a few ways to go about it.

To accomplish this, hang a bell near or on the door that is reachable by your puppy’s nose. Every time you take them out to potty, gently bump the bell with their nose and then go out.

For training your Havanese to go inside, you first want to select an area of your home where the puppy can get to easily, but yet out of the way of foot traffic and out of all eating areas. Once that area is found, place a plastic puppy litter box, lined with absorbent pads. By gently and continuously taking your puppy to that location for their elimination, they will soon catch on and do it themselves.

While it may seem like a never ending process to potty train your Havanese, I can promise that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it soon will be over. Like any other training, Havanese potty training requires patience on the part of the owner. Try to make sure you are always focused and that you remain calm. Your puppy can pick up if you are unhappy and this can cause stress on the training process.

Like children, your puppy needs to know that you are supportive of them and that you are proud of their accomplishments. So, it is very important to remain consistent at all times and to never forget to give praise when praise is due. Before you know it your Havanese will be completely house broken and the stress of training will be a thing of the past and you will barely even remember it.
