One of the biggest problems for some people today is getting the right carpet cleaning machines to properly clean a carpet. A great machine is one that brushes or steams the carpet, however some of us do not have this equipment for our homes.
Getting the right equipment as well as the right shampoo is critical to obtain a clean carpet. Renting machines and buying good shampoo can be very expensive however.
What if I told you that you don’t really need an expensive machine or a costly shampoo to get your carpeting as fresh and clean as the day you first bought it? Fortunately or not, I’m a bit of a penny pincher, which means I like to do what some people think is impossible. My general aim has been to save as much money as I possibly can without blowing it all at the store.
Expensive shampoo is not a necessity. There are other options which you can make on your own that might even work better then the factory shampoo.
That blue stuff that cleans windows can be mixed with an equal part of water and it makes a great carpet shampoo. Or you can mix vinegar and water, but that will be one part vinegar to ten parts of water. Liquid Tide is also a possibility, diluted with some water. It’ll take about five hours to dry, but by then the smell will evaporate.
Okay, you’ve got the secret to not buying the shampoo that’s too expensive. Now what do you do about the steam cleaner?
A spray bottle can be used by filling it with your home made solution and then cleaning the carpet. A mop also works very well and can be done with a sponge mop or a regular mop. Both work well and need to be wringed out well so the carpet is not too wet.
Mop like you would mop any floor, but just go back over it some more times. Get the dirt out of the rug that way, then wait the four or five hours for it to dry. Then vacuum to get any residual soil. In that way, the carpet will be fluffed up. There you have it. You’ve got clean rugs and you haven’t spent very much at all!
