5 Easy Steps to Publishing Your eBook

by James T Maxwell on March 24, 2009

Creating profitable eBooks is easier than you may imagine. Actually, many people have been able to write eBooks and earn excellent money as a result. It’s entirely possible that you can too. If you follow these step by step instructions, you can write eBooks that will sell.

Step 1 – Research Your Market

You may be able to write a bestseller on basketweaving, but unless you take the time to research the target audience for your book, you may call short on that goal. Before you put pen to paper, be sure to take the time to examine who the projected readers for your book will be. Once you’ve taken that step, then you’ll have a better idea on how to proceed with writing the book.

Step 2 – Write and Package Your eBook

This is the fun part of the process, but not necessarily the most difficult. You can write the eBook yourself, write parts of it and farm the rest of it out to a skilled writer, or just use PLR material and piece it together.

You will want to save it as an Adobe Reader (.PDF) file for ease in sending it to readers. The PDF format is more widely accepted.

Step 3 – Setting Up a Persuasive Website

This is the most important step in the eBook writing process. You will need to establish an Internet presence in order to market and sell your eBook.

This can be accomplished by setting up a website with lots of information about your eBook and convincing words about why others should buy your eBook. Fairly soon, you should start seeing sales.

Step 4 – Setup a Payment System

As part of your website, it’s generally a good idea to have a payment system link available for consumers to purchase your eBook. The easiest way to do this is by providing a Paypal link.

If you plan on building a large business then you might want to go ahead and setup a real merchant account and use a real shopping cart system. How you choose to take payments can make a big impact down the line. For example, to setup continuity PayPal will insist on emailing your customers every time you’re billed. If you want to do follow-up email marketing, PayPal will be a big hassle. For most marketers setting up a merchant account and shopping cart system just isn’t worth the effort at this point.

Step 5 – Generate Traffic

In order to get the word out about your eBook and website, you will be finding ways to generate traffic to your site via marketing efforts. This can be accomplished by joining multiple online communities and posting your link in messages or blog posts.

Don’t be afraid to ask other website owners if you can share links or banners – especially those with similar products. You may also want to use a Pay Per Click program which guarantees a certain amount of web traffic for a low cost.

Remember that selling eBooks can be a fun way to earn a substantial income, but that it will take time for this process to occur.
